We are thrilled to share the highlights from our recent Collaborative Mathematics Professional Learning Communities with the Western Cape Education Department! Our dedicated Grade 2 and Grade 3 teachers from the eight Bitou primary schools came together for an inspiring and fun-filled session led by the wonderful Janette Jooste, Foundation Phase Curriculum Advisor. 

We are so excited to be part of this initiative to get incredible mathematics resources designed to promote groupwork in our Foundation Phase classrooms. There are many groupwork benefits, as highlighted by Janette, include fostering positive learning environments and assisting with discipline. These resources are available in English, Afrikaans, and isiXhosa, specifically tailored for our Grade 2 (2024) and Grade 3 (2023) teachers. 

Our CAPS-aligned materials enrich mathematical vocabulary, foster critical thinking, and develop essential social skills. Plus, the inclusion of games encourages creative thinking and creates opportunities for learning through fun! The laughter and joy among the teachers as they learned these games were infectious, reminding us all that learning can be both effective and enjoyable.

Last year the Grade 3 materials were created, this year the Grade 2 materials were added, and next year, we plan to add the Grade 1 materials. This progression will ensure comprehensive coverage of the entire Foundation Phase!
