Bitou Spelling Stars Awards 2019

 

The ‘Bitou Spelling Stars’ Awards was held at the Piesang Valley Hall on the 24th of October 2019.

bsa feat 4Kwanokuthula Primary, Phakamisani Primary, Kranshoek Primary, Plett Primary, Crags Primary & Formosa Primary learners were all given a list of words, pertaining to their grades, in English, Afrikaans, and isiXhosa.

All learners competed in internal school challenges and the top speller’s from each grade were selected to compete in the inter-school event, held at Kwanokuthula Primary School from the 3rd to the 12th of September 2019.

Kwanokuthula Primary School Principal, Mr Faleni, opened the awards with a short message on what it means to be a ‘Spelling Bee’.

Chairperson of the Bitou 10 Foundation, Marietta Van Rooyen commended the learners for their hard work and went on to explain that without ‘willingness’ the children would not be standing where they are today.

bsa feat 5Shaylon Harker – Grade 1 Kranshoek Primary walked away with two medals for both the English and Afrikaans categories

This year 4 new schools entered the competition and it was a close run. All the learners did exceptionally well and each was awarded a certificate in recognition of their achievements. And the overall winners per grade were each given medals in recognition of their accomplishments.

After much excitement, the Bitou Spelling Stars 2019 winners were announced and the winning schools each received their trophies.

Kwanokuthula Primary School was the overall winner for the iSiXhosa category.

Plettenberg Bay Primary celebrated two trophies for the English and Afrikaans categories. Their principal, Mr. Koekemoer, the teachers and parents were extremely proud of their learners.

Mr Faleni ended off by commending his staff, teachers,  the Bitou Municipality and the Bitou 10 Foundation for their successful contribution towards the organisation of the Awards Ceremony.

Well done to all the children from all six schools, who participated and to the two winning schools!
